If the house itself (meaning the structure) is relatively new,
the land is not, and much that has happened over time affects the current structure,
in both positive and negative ways. Very often the house will carry the energy it was
built with, the energy of the builders themselves. A house carries the fingerprints
of all past experiences, sometimes spirits remain who have died in the house or a
spirit is attached to a particular person. If there is spiritual activity in a home that is
unwanted, a house blessing is a wonderful way to guide those spirits to the other side
and bring serenity, peace and fulfillment to the business, home, or land and the people
who live and work there. Each room of the house is entered and cleaned of unwanted
energy. House blessings take between two to four hours or longer.
You may invite household members to join in the blessing. You can also invite a
friend or two as allies that support your highest good.
To prepare for a house blessing you'll need to write down anything unusual that has
happened in the home, and/or any history of the home or land to tell the shamanic
practitioner. In addition, you'll need to obtain the items below.
- 1. Corn meal (2lbs. or more) - enough to spread around the entire perimeter
of the house.
- 2. Cedar chips or fresh cedar - enough to place a small amount above each
doorway and window of the house. Leaves from a native tree (ex: oak leaves
from Northern California) will also suffice.
- 3. Food prepared by your own hands - enough for everyone participating in the
house blessing.
- 4. Four candles of the same color and for each invited guest who will support
this blessing for your highest good.
- 5. Tea candles (about 1/2 inch high, white in a tin container) - one for each room in
the house or property that is going to be cleansed.
- 6. Fresh flowers - the flowers will be placed in the bowl of water without the stems.
After the house and land are blessed, it is recommended to have
home cooked meals with friends and family within one week of the blessing.
